Water Loss Management
Water loss management is an important tool for any water utility looking to reduce their non-revenue water; whether seeking savings through a reduction in real losses such as leakage on reticulation or reducing apparent losses due to customer meter inaccuracies.
Water loss management is a pro-active approach to reducing losses within a system and then monitoring and managing loss levels into the future. Not just a tool in times of drought, water loss management is becoming integrated into the operations of large and small utilities across the Australia.
Aqua Environmental takes a holistic approach to water loss management and aims to deliver services that are appropriate and ‘hands-on’ where necessary. Each task undertaken by the team is carefully project-managed to ensure that the needs of clients are met efficiently, cost-effectively and within agreed time and budget targets.
Our team has worked with over twenty local water utilities in Australia advising on water loss investigation and management through solutions such as metering, leak detection, repairs and and pressure management. Our aim is to provide reliable, innovative and cost-effective solutions that enable sustainable water loss management by a utility.
Our experienced engineers can provide advice on all aspects of water loss management, from temporary measurement techniques in a single zone through to comprehensive network metering and monitoring solution incorporating pressure management. Areas of expertise include:
Metering and Monitoring
- Design, installation and specification of permanent meters for flow monitoring
- Assessment of existing meter accuracy (bulk or retail meters) and advice on replacement
- Management of retail meter fleets
- Temporary measurement techniques such as reservoir drop testing
- Specification of monitoring requirements for datalogging or SCADA systems
- Advice on the most suitable monitoring system or incorporation with existing
- Temporary or permanent logging of large user flowmeters
- Pressure monitoring – at critical points throughout a supply zone and for pressure transients that may be damaging critical water mains
Network Analysis
- IWA Water Balance – ‘top-down’ annual water balance across a supply system
- Minimum Night Flow (MNF) analysis – ‘bottom-up’ measurement of loss occurring in a particular zone
- Design and implementation of District Metered Areas (DMA’s)
- Design and implementation of Pressure Managed Zones (PMZ’s)
- Calculations of likely water savings from a leak detection or pressure management program
Active Leak Detection
- High resolution acoustic surveys of reticulation water mains
- Sahara® and SmartBall® for trunk main leak detection
- Advice on the most appropriate solution for particular pipelines
Our aim is to provide reliable, innovative and cost-effective solutions that enable sustainable water loss management by a Client.
