Bridges
SoundPrint® is a patented innovative monitoring technology that can detect and locate failures in high-strength steel wire, strand or cable through continuous, non-intrusive remote monitoring.
Whether these materials are used in prestressed concrete cylinder pipes, reinforcement in post-tensioned structures, or as primary supporting elements in cable-stayed or suspension bridges, they can corrode and fail without any external evidence, leading to potential structural deficiency.
SoundPrint® continuously and non-destructively monitors if, when and where deterioration is occurring so that engineers can make informed decisions about maintenance or repair requirements.
How it works
SoundPrint® uses an array of sensors or distributed acoustic fibre optics sensors to measure the response of a structure caused by the energy released when tensioned wires fail or other events of interest occur.
SoundPrint’s® acoustic sensors are connected to a data acquisition system located in or near the structure being monitored. SoundPrint® filters out acoustic events caused by ambient activity such as traffic or loose joints. Data from events that pass a primary filtering process are then automatically transmitted to a data-processing center by means of the Internet. Sophisticated proprietary software is used by Pure Technologies’ analysts to determine the time, location, and classification of each event.
Depending on specific client needs:
- Data can be accessed directly by clients using the secure client access website.
- Reports can be generated summarizing activity in a structure over a specified period.
