Tweed Shire Council award NSW Leakage Contract

7-Jan 2010: Aqua Environmental was today awarded a contract for Tweed Shire Council on the northern NSW coast. The project is part of the NSW Water Loss Management Program and will involve the surveying of approximately 45km of water mains in the Tweed Heads region.

The NSW Water Loss Management Program is a $22M joint initiative of the Local Government and Shires Associations (LGSA) of NSW, the Water Directorate with partial funding from the Australian Government (through the Water Smart Australia programme).

The project supports NSW Local Water Utilities’ efforts to reduce leakage from their drinking water distribution systems by providing specialist knowledge and equipment to help local staff identify, develop and implement water saving projects. The program aims to be flexible and integrate with local staff, timing and financial capabilities and constraints.

Aqua Environmental has completed a number of projects under this initiative, the most recent for Shoalhaven Water on the NSW South Coast. This project was one of the largest under the NSW WLMP involving the survey of approximately 250km of water main.
